San Bernardino Federal Express driver dies in crash

A Federal Express driver died Thursday morning in a high-speed traffic collision on an Interstate 10 transition road, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The accident occurred about 9 a.m. when a 1995 Ford Mustang, traveling at what witnesses estimated to be more than 100 mph and passing cars on the shoulder, rear-ended a Federal Express truck on the transition road from eastbound I-10 to northbound Interstate 215, Officer Kevin Haney said.

The truck, driven by 32-year-old Troy L. Brown of Fontana, went out of control, careened off the road and hit a tree, Haney said.

Brown died at the scene, San Bernardino County Coroner's Department officials said.

The Mustang's driver, identified as Richard Harrison, 58, of San Bernardino, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with moderate injuries, Haney said.
