Troy Brown
The Story

I saw Troy at our softball tournament on April 9, 2000, and talked with him via phone a few times after that date. However, since I only saw or talked to Troy (in regards to softball) I had no contact with anyone else in his family or other friends.

On July 10, 2000 I tried to get in touch with Troy. Both his cellular and home phones were disconnected, so the next day I sent him a regular letter (via snail mail) to his last known address. I did not hear anything for 11 days; so on July 21, 2000 I called FedEx to see if they could pass on a message. They stated that they could not release any info or pass messages. So, I again tried the cellular and home numbers . . . still disconnected.

On my way to work on Monday, August 1, 2000, I recalled that my step-mom works for FedEx. I called my Dad to relay a message to Peggy. When Dad called Peggy and mentioned Troy's name, she immediately recognized the name (from a FedEx newsletter) and said, "Oh my God". Peggy then explained that Troy was killed. Dad then called me on the afternoon of August 1, 2000 with the shocking news . . . Troy was killed in an auto accident on June 15, 2000.

On August 2, 2000 I was able to track down a number for Troy's parents, and according to his Mom, the FedEx truck hit a call box that was attached to a telephone pole first, then went down the embankment and hit the tree. She said that Troy had a small cut on the left side of the head, which was unseen during the viewing, and a broken leg.

The visitation was Friday, June 23, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Long Beach Colonial Mortuary, 638 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802, and the services were Saturday, June 24, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, 1641 East Carson Street, Carson, CA 90745.

Troy was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Mortuary in Cypress.
